New In Karea: A Welcome Tour, Meeting Attendance And A Sharper Karea Connect

·5 min read

This release makes Karea friendlier from the very first minute, adds attendance to your meetings and brings a long list of improvements to Karea Connect. Here is what changed.

A Welcome Tour For New Accounts

  • Pick your look first. The first time you sign in, Karea asks whether you want Light, Dark or Auto (following your computer), and switches straight away.
  • A short, visual tour. A few animated screens show the essentials: short task IDs you can copy with one click, planning your day on the timeline, Quick Actions, asking Karea in your own words, Karea Connect and how AI sessions keep each task's context up to date.
  • Small tips, one a day. After the tour, a small tip at the top of Today and your project pages points out one feature at a time. Got it retires a tip, and No tips turns them off. You can turn them back on in Settings, under Feature tips.

Meeting Attendance

  • Say whether you are going. Every meeting now has an attendance status: Attendance confirmed (the default), Unconfirmed attendance or Not attending. Set it from the meeting's edit section. On a recurring meeting, you choose whether it applies to this meeting only, to this and the following ones, or to the whole series.
  • Out of your way. Meetings you are not attending are greyed out on Today, the Planner, Quick Actions and the Meetings list, and they no longer trigger "starting soon" alerts.
  • Recurring meetings keep their time. A recurring meeting now stays at the same time on your clock when the clocks change for summer or winter time.
  • Clearer dates. A meeting that ends on a different day now shows its end date.

Karea Connect

  • Finished stays Finished. When a session finishes while it is on screen in the Shared View, it stays marked Finished (and glows) until you click or type in it. Once you have opened it, it stays read, even after reloading the page.
  • See background work. A session's status shows how many background agents are still running in it.
  • Messages reach the right place. Messages sent from the chat now always go to the main conversation, even when Claude Code is showing one of its subagents.
  • Manage folders and worktrees from New session. A Manage folders button next to the folder list opens your folders and worktrees, including worktrees you created outside Karea, and lets you create new ones on the spot.
  • New session, your choice of task. On the Connect page, New session suggests the task you have open, and you can now remove it or pick another one.
  • Mute a session. Silence a busy session's notifications for a while, and turn them back on when you like.
  • Drafts per session. What you type in a session's message box is kept for that session, even after a reload, and never carries over to another one.
  • Easier answers. In question cards, the highlighted choice follows your clicks, so pressing Enter picks what you expect.
  • Side questions. Asking Claude Code a side question with /btw while it is working no longer shows the message as queued.
  • Tidier panes. Folded sessions in the Shared View show their project, task and status at a glance, and each session's header shows its project.

Some of these need the latest connector, version 0.4.31. Your machines update it on their own, or you can update it from Settings > Machines.

Uploads, Notes And Reminders

  • Cancel uploads. Uploads in progress can now be cancelled from their notification.
  • Autostyle with AI says what it is doing. Saving a note or description with Autostyle shows "Styling with AI..." and then whether it was styled or already tidy. Long, messy text now gets proper headings, lists and highlights, without losing anything you wrote.
  • Reminders close everywhere. Snoozing, dismissing or completing a reminder on one device now closes its popup on your other open tabs within a second or two.
  • Readable notes in light mode. Text typed in the Blocks editor is now dark and easy to read in light mode, whatever your computer's own setting is.

A Friendlier Karea

  • Illustrated empty pages. Empty days, weeks, projects, categories, resources, teams, public links and many task sections now show a small drawing and a hint about what to do next, instead of a plain line of text. A category whose tasks are hidden by your filters says so.
  • A proper New project window. The + next to Projects in the sidebar now opens a window to name your project, add a description and pick a colour.
  • Fewer hints, cleaner screens. Command hints and the keyboard hints in the project header are gone; the shortcuts still work.
  • More varied greetings. The welcome greeting now has many more ways to say hello at every time of day.
  • Recurring tasks open when you plan them. Planning or moving the next occurrence of a recurring task to before its usual start time now opens it straight away.

For Claude Code And MCP Users

  • Short IDs everywhere. Anywhere the Karea MCP takes a task or an open question, you can pass its short ID (like KA12).
  • Meeting times in your time zone when your AI lists or views meetings.
  • The Karea plugin for Claude Code now notices file edits and Salesforce deploys as unsynced work, and reminds Claude to update the task until it does.

As always, tell us what you think from the feedback button in Karea.
