New In Karea: Privacy Built Into The Database, Note Replies, And Task Shortcuts
This update builds privacy into the deepest layer of Karea, lets you reply to notes in threads, adds keyboard shortcuts inside a task, and makes tagging and project IDs work better for teams. Here is what changed.
Your Data Is Protected At The Database Level
Karea has always checked who you are before showing you anything. Now that protection lives in the database itself, not only in the app.
Every request carries who you are, and the database only ever hands back what you are allowed to see: your own work, and the projects you have been invited to. The same rule applies to everything connected to a task, like linked tasks, notes, questions, resources and meetings. If something belongs to a project you are not part of, it simply is not there for you.
- Roles are enforced at the source. Viewers can read, commenters can add notes, editors can change things, and only owners manage members.
- API keys follow the same rules. A key limited to one project can only reach that project, and a read-only key can never change anything.
- Your name stays yours. Notes, history and questions are always recorded under the person who actually wrote them.
- Files are stored separately for each person, so uploads never collide, even when two people use the same project code.
You do not need to do anything. It works the same way in the app, the AI chat, the Chrome extension and the MCP connector.
Reply To Notes, In Threads
Every note now has a Reply button. Replies sit under the note they answer, and Karea shows the latest one with See more replies when a conversation grows.
- Replies use the same editor as notes, so you can format text and tag tasks, questions, resources, meetings and teammates with @.
- Copy, summarize, edit and hide replies, just like notes.
- Jira keeps the threads. Pushing a reply to Jira sends the note it answers first if needed (Karea asks before it does), and pulled comments come back as replies under the right note.
- The AI chat, the MCP connector and the API can read and write replies too.
Keyboard Shortcuts Inside A Task
In a task, press R to open Related and D to open Details. On Related, press a number to open that section: 1 for Notes, 2 for Context, and so on. Each tab and tile shows its key, and nothing triggers while you are typing.
Better For Teams
- @ shows the right people. Inside a task, tagging only suggests people on that task's project.
- Project codes are yours. Two people can both use the same short code, like ABC, for their own projects. When an ID could mean either one, the AI and the MCP connector ask which project you mean instead of guessing.
Smaller Improvements
- Shorter titles, gently. Past 50 characters, Karea suggests moving the detail into the description. Past 500, it tells you in red.
- Check-ins around midnight. If you checked in just before midnight, Karea no longer asks again right after it.
