Karea's Biggest Update Yet: JIRA, Notion, AI & Plan Your Day

·10 min read

One Giant Leap: What's New in Karea

We shipped a full JIRA integration, a brand-new Plan Your Day view, AI-powered task summaries, and smarter Notion sync, alongside dozens of smaller upgrades. This isn't a minor patch. It's a fundamental upgrade to how you manage tasks, collaborate across tools, and stay productive.

Let's walk through everything, feature by feature. No fluff, just what changed and why it matters.

JIRA Integration: A True Two-Way Bridge

JIRA integration has been the #1 request since Karea launched. Now it's here, and it's more than a simple sync. We built a two-way bridge that respects your workflow, not the other way around.

How it works

Linking is manual by default. You connect a Karea task to a JIRA ticket once, and from there you can push Karea notes as JIRA comments (one-shot or automatic), pull JIRA comments back into Karea notes, and map statuses between the two systems. Status mapping is per-project and reads your actual JIRA workflow, so it never breaks when your team renames or reorders statuses.

Per-task override

Every push/pull action can be overridden per task. So if you have a global setting that auto-pushes notes, but one ticket is sensitive, you can opt out. No surprises.

Cleaner synced comments

Synced comments no longer carry a [Karea] prefix. Echo loops are prevented behind the scenes. A small detail that makes a big difference in real-world use.

Audit log and revert

Every Karea-to-JIRA action is logged. You can see exactly what was pushed, when. Each entry has a Revert button that undoes the action on JIRA. Accidental sync? One click to undo.

> Bottom line: If you live in JIRA but want a faster, keyboard-first task manager, Karea now bridges the gap seamlessly.

Notion Integration: OAuth-Based Two-Way Sync

Notion users, this one's for you. We built a proper OAuth-based two-way sync that gives you granular control.

Per-field flags

You decide what syncs: title, status, deadline, body, notes. Per-field flags let you sync only what you need. Don't want Notion to overwrite your Karea deadline? Uncheck it.

Conflict detection

When both sides change the same field, Karea detects the conflict and asks you how to resolve it instead of silently overwriting.

Linked items get a badge

Linked tasks and resources show a Notion badge with inline push, pull, and pause controls. You can pause sync for a single task without breaking the global connection.

Plan Your Day: Your Daily Command Center

This is the feature we're most excited about. The new Today page (Sun icon in the sidebar) is a three-column view designed to help you plan your day in seconds.

The three columns

  1. Timeline by hour. Scheduled tasks grouped by hour. Drag a task into a time slot to pin it to that hour.
  2. Today, no time yet. Tasks you've pinned to today but haven't assigned a specific time.
  3. Other open tasks. Everything else, grouped by project and category.

Drag and drop everywhere

Full drag-and-drop across all columns. Drop into an hour slot to pin with a time. Drop into the no-time column to pin to today. Fast, intuitive, and keyboard-friendly.

Subtasks are nested

Subtasks appear visually nested under their parent. No more hunting for related work.

Search to add

A "Search a task to add to today" picker pulls in any task from any project. Perfect for surfacing work without leaving the view.

> Why this matters: Most "plan your day" tools require manual entry. Karea surfaces everything you need to decide what to work on, then lets you schedule it in seconds.

Live AI Task Summary — Max tier

On the full task page, Max users now see an auto-generated 2-3 sentence summary at the top. It tracks meaningful changes — description, status, deadline, notes — and doesn't regenerate on cosmetic edits like renames or priority bumps.

It's the kind of AI that actually saves time: instead of scrolling through a long task to remember what it's about, you get a concise summary at a glance.

AI Reporting Insights

The Reporting page now auto-generates AI insights about your productivity trends over the last 30 days. The window is fixed at 30 days regardless of filters, because trends need a consistent baseline.

Insights are cached until midnight so they persist across devices, with a banner you can hide. Available on Pro and Max.

Conversational AI: Multi-Step Actions

The chat AI can now ask for missing information iteratively, which means it can chain operations in a single turn — for example, fuzzy-match a resource, create a category, create a task, and link the resource to it, all from one prompt. A big step toward truly conversational task management.

Type [[KA123]] anywhere markdown renders (task notes, the markdown editor, resource bodies) and it becomes a clickable chip linking to that task. Folder-qualified syntax like [[folder/file.md]] disambiguates same-named resources.

This turns Karea into a true knowledge base. Link tasks, resources, and documents together as easily as typing.

Notes in Markdown, Split by Source

Notes now render as markdown in view mode — bold, code, links, lists, blockquotes all work. The editor supports live inline formatting: bold, italic, backticks for code, - for lists, > for blockquotes.

Notes split by source

The task page now has four tabs: Details, Notes, History, Markdown. When notes have mixed sources, filter chips appear (All / User / MCP / JIRA / AI) and each non-user note carries a colored source badge. You can instantly see which notes came from JIRA, which from AI, and which you wrote.

Manual push of a note to JIRA

Each note now has a "push to JIRA" button on the task panel and full task page. Visible only when the task has a JIRA link, with a confirm dialog before sending. You can push a single note even when global sync is off.

Recurring Tasks: More Control

Weekly recurrence now has a day-of-week dropdown, monthly has a day-of-month input, and daily/weekly/monthly all support a time picker. Auto-saves. Visible in both the recurring page and the task modal. Finally, recurring tasks that match your actual schedule.

A top-of-page progress indicator that animates during route changes. It covers programmatic navigations, redirects, and back/forward. No more wondering if a page is loading.

Smarter AI summary cache

The summary regenerates only when something meaningful changes — a new note, a status change, an updated description. Cosmetic edits like title or priority no longer waste a regeneration.

Resources: Share, Rename, Drag & Drop, Preview

A wave of resource improvements:

  • Public share links for any resource
  • Rename a folder in Resources
  • Drag-and-drop to reorder or move

  • Loading spinner while images and PDFs fetch

Sharing & Collaboration

  • Resources linked to a task are exposed
  • JIRA links on tasks are exposed
  • edit_task supports renaming
  • Closing requisites can be edited and toggled
  • Binary uploads supported
